beginning percussion
Percussion is both one of the most popular and most misunderstood beginning band instruments offered at CMS. Percussionists are musicians who specialize in instruments played by some form of striking or shaking. Contrary to popular, belief, there is no "drum" class in beginning band. Instead, all percussionists learn to play a large variety of different instruments.
Beginning percussionists spend a roughly equal amount of time learning to play two basic instrument types: mallet percussion (xylophone, bells, etc.), and battery percussion (snare drum, practice pad, etc.). In addition, beginning percussionists learn some basic techniques required to play timpani, cymbals, bass drum, and other accessory percussion instruments. Watch the videos to learn more!
