frequently asked questions
Q: Do I need experience to be in the CMS band?
A: No background is necessary! Almost everyone who joins band has zero musical experience. Our beginning band classes start from the very beginning of how to play an instrument and read music.
Q: How do I join Band?
A: To join band, follow these easy steps:
Q: Does band conflict with other school activities?
A: NO! Most of our students are involved in many other activities at our campus, including sports, drama, GT and Pre-AP classes, and all sorts of clubs. We encourage our students to have a well-rounded experience in middle school.
Q: What is the time commitment for practice in your program?
A: We encourage students to practice from 20—30 minutes each day to maintain and develop their skills. Some do more and some do less. Results vary from child to child, but it’s generally true that “you get out of it what you are willing to put in.” The better you get, the more fun band becomes!
Q: How do I get an instrument and necessary supplies?
A: The directors will help you with this once school starts next fall. Please do not let financial hardship be the reason to not join, we are here to help you and have many options!
Q: Does the school provide instruments?
A: If your student plays the oboe, bassoon, french horn, euphonium, or tuba, a school owned instrument will be issued to them. All other instruments will need to be rented through our local H&H Music vendor. However, we have some school owned instruments available to families going through financial hardship. Availability will be first come, first served. Please reach out to a director if this applies to you.
